AUSTIN, Texas (July 22, 2025) – Chicago Fire FC winger Philip Zinckernagel and the MLS All-Star Team will take on the Liga MX All-Stars at the 2025 MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 23 at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Led by Austin FC Head Coach Nico Estévez, the MLS All-Stars will feature the best of the best in Major League Soccer, including Zinckernagel and other luminaries like Evander (FC Cincinnati), Denis Bouanga (LAFC), Anders Dreyer (San Diego FC) and the USMNT’s breakout star of the summer, Diego Luna (Real Salt Lake). But most of the attention from around the globe will likely center on one name: Inter Miami CF forward Lionel Messi, who comes into the match in torrid form. The Argentine forward leads the league with 18 goals, including 12 in his last seven games, and the reigning league MVP to boot.

The highly talented MLS squad will face the ultimate test against a Liga MX side determined to win its second All-Star Game in a row against their North American rivals. The Liga MX All-Stars will be led by Club América manager Andre Jardine, who has won six titles in his short tenure with the Mexico City-based club. At his disposal will be some of the best players in the continent, including FIFA World Cup champion Sergio Ramos, his former Real Madrid teammate James Rodriguez, Mexican national team stars Henry Martín and Alexis Vega and USMNT forward Alejandro Zendejas.

The All-Star Game will be the fourth between All-Star teams from both leagues, with MLS taking the first two iterations in 2021 and 2022. But upon the series’ resumption last year in Columbus, Liga MX made a statement with a dominant 4-1 victory marked by four different goal scorers.

By the Numbers

1 – Philip Zinckernagel will participate in his first MLS All-Star Game in the midst of one of the best first years for any player in Club history. The Danish winger became the first Fire player to reach the 10-goal, 10-assist mark in Club history last Saturday. His 20 goal contributions are the sixth highest mark in a single season, with 12 games left on the schedule to add more.

2 – Wednesday’s MLS All-Star Game will be the only the second one held in the state of Texas in league history. The 2010 edition was held in Houston’s Reliant Stadium on July 28 and featured the MLS All-Stars against European giants Manchester United. Midfielder Marco Pappa and defender Wilman Conde represented the Fire in the match, which the Red Devils won 5-2 against the league’s best.

32 – Zinckernagel’s selection to the All-Star Game by head coach Nico Estévez made him the 32nd Chicago Fire FC player to be selected to an All-Star roster.

Chicago has been well represented throughout the history of the competition, with Ring of Fire members like Zach Thornton and Chris Armas earning a place four different times, and league award-winners like Mike Magee and Nemanja Nikolić also earning a nod. Midfielder and FIFA World Cup champion Bastian Schweinsteiger captained the side the last time Chicago hosted the game in 2017, while Mexican international Cuauhtémoc Blanco earned the game’s MVP award in the 2008 iteration held in Toronto.
